2020: XXX r/Rum Series: XXX/Four, XXX/Five and XXX/Six For Sale!

Hooray! It’s Sale Day! Howdy Everyone! t8ke here,

Today, at Fine Drams, our next entries in the community rum selection project for r/Rum are finally for sale. At this time, you can check out and purchase bottles and samples from XXX/Four, XXX/Five and XXX/Six.

Here’s a little more about each, in detail:

XXX/Four is a South Pacific rum hailing from Fiji. Distilled at South Pacific using a pot still and molasses, XXX/Four was aged in the Philippines from 2004 to 2016. In 2016, the rum was shipped to England and rebarreled to finish aging in American Oak Cask #3 for 4 years. Bottled on January 8th, 2020 at 66.8% ABV this rum yielded 214 bottles. All XXX rums are bottled without filtering, coloring, additives or dilution of any kind. Selected via blind tasting with a panel of tasters from r/Rum and Aficionados.

XXX/Four is very representative of excellent Fiji style rum, demonstrating bright fruits on the nose, such as strawberry, orange, mango and citrus. Tobacco, molasses and toffee round out a rich palate along with moderate oak structure. A long, sweet finish brings toasted coconut, allspice and candied orange peel to mind before whisping cleanly away.

XXX/Five is a young Jamaican rum, distilled at a distillery in Saint Catherine. XXX/Five was crafted using a pot still and molasses before two years of tropical aging in Jamaica. Chemical analysis reveals an ester count of 67.7 G/HLAA, with total volatile substances registering at 529.8 G/HLAA. Bottled on January 9th, 2020 at 65% ABV, this rum yielded 400 bottles. All XXX rums are bottled without filtering, coloring, additives or dilution of any kind. Selected via blind tasting with a panel of tasters from r/Rum and Aficionados.

XXX/Five is a delightful exploration of flavors. Young enough to maintain unaged rums bright effervescence, but with oak structure to bring depth, XXX/Five is moderately funky. The nose brings us creamy caramel and vanilla, while the esters deliver sandalwood, mango, melon and lemon candy. The funk is bright, and fruit forward, shying away from acrid diesel or rotting meat. The nose transitions directly into a fruity palate, demonstrating peppery tobacco, mango, pineapple, and creamy vanilla. XXX/Five makes its departure with a medium-long finish bursting with complexity. Notes of molasses, melon and pineapple funk rest on the palate for some time.

XXX/Six is an Agricole style rum distilled in Mauritius. XXX/Six was distilled on a column still using cane juice. This bottling was aged in oak casks in Mauritius from 2010 to 2018. In 2018, it was shipped to England where it finished aging in a first fill Bourbon whiskey cask for 2 years. Bottled on January 6th, 2020 at 67.2% ABV this rum yielded 260 bottles. All XXX rums are bottled without filtering, coloring, additives or dilution of any kind. Selected via blind tasting with a panel of tasters from r/Rum and Aficionados.

XXX/Six is the wild step child in this series of Rum releases. This rum was deeply divisive to the tasting panel, and is likely to be the most controversial release so far. XXX/Six demonstrates the wild complexity moderately aged agricole can bring to the table. Notes of cinnamon, eucalyptus, and nutty sweetness can be found while nosing this dram. The palate is powerfully grassy with notes of cinnamon, spearmint, herbal spice and savory toffee sweetness. The finish picks up where the palate leaves off, continuing with more herbal, minty, grass fun. Airtime is a big friend of this rum, with most panel members finding it to open up beautifully after several weeks of resting after first opening. Fans of Agricole will surely find this bottling to be most interesting.

If you weren’t aware, either, there are still some bottles remaining from the other subreddit single cask selections! In 2019, subreddits for Brandy, Rum, Bourbon and Scotch all made selections for their members. Check some of them out!

Please enjoy these delightful rums, and let me know if you have any questions!
