Review #1191 – Tomatin 18

Review #1191 | Scotch Review #404 – Tomatin 18

The Schtick: This is the 18 year old expression of Tomatin’s core range. Initially matured in bourbon, it is moved to Oloroso sherry butts for finishing.

Distiller: Tomatin

Bottler: Tomatin

Selection: N/A

ABV: 46% ABV

Age: 18 Years

Nose: Rich honey, figs, apples, dates, cherry and currant. Really rich sherry notes here. Moist pipe tobacco. Honey, amaretto, vanilla.

Taste: Medium, no heat. Rich sweet sherry. This is what I was hoping for in previous expressions. Musty pipe tobacco. Currant, blackberry, light earthiness. Faint cocoa, light pepper. The sherry here is quite apparent compared to the 12 and 15.

Finish: Long, sweet, rich. Honey, almonds, figs, currant, musty sweetness. Tobacco is really apparent.

Overall: Skip the 12 and the 15. Buy this instead and drink half as much. Remarkable improvements over the other two. Good stuff.

Thanks for reading!

Thanks for saving me money. I was eyeing the Tomatin 12 year cask strength or maybe the 12 year but now will save money for the 18.
