Review #1223 – Balvenie 15yr Single Barrel Sherry Cask

Review #1223 | Scotch Review #418 – Balvenie 15yr Single Barrel Sherry Cask

The Schtick: This is a cask strength bottling of distillate from Balvenie, released by Balvenie after 15 years of aging in a sherry cask.

Distiller: Balvenie

Bottler: Balvenie

Selection: N/A

ABV: 47.8% ABV

Age: 15 Years

Nose: A bit of heat, but sweet and loaded with jam. Cinnamon, leather, tobacco, vanilla, some light nuttiness and then berries like cherry and cranberry.

Taste: Pepper, honey, a bit of heat. Vanilla, cherry, blackberry and a good deal of cinnamon and fresh baked bread.

Finish: Long, rich, although hot. The heat grows while pepper, sulfur and some baked bread notes crowd out the sherry.

Overall: Not bad! Certainly good stuff, but not one of their better casks in my opinion. Still good, and if I had lots of extra money to just throw around, I’d probably keep one around.

Thanks for reading!
