Review #1410 – Glenallachie 7yr SMWS 107.16 “Truly a Fairy Tale”

The Schtick: This is an independent bottling of spirit distilled at Glenallachie, bottled by SMWS after 7 years of aging in an ex-bourbon barrel. This bottling, “Truly a Fairy Tale” is bottled at cask strength, with no coloring or filtering. Let’s see how it is.

Age: 7 Years

Nose: Toffee, caramel, red berries like currant and cherry, faint brine and some cake batter.

Taste: Thin to medium, but hot. So very hot. Vanilla, cake batter, cherry syrupy, light pepper and some toffee.

Finish: Long, but hot and punishing. Loaded with sweetness, caramel and toffee.

Overall: Interesting but far too young and far too hot.

    Oh man.. now I’m worried. I’ve got a GleannAllachie 7 year bottling from Battlehill but it is around 55% ABV. I hope it is better than this one and not so hot due to the lower ABV. Keeping my fingers crossed.
