Review #1427 – Tapatio Excelencia Extra Anejo

The Schtick: This is an extra anejo tequila from Tapatio. Distilled in 2000, it was aged for 5 years in Excelencia barrels, then rested for 10 years in glass.

Review #1427 | Tequila Review #72

Distiller: La Altena

Bottler: La Altena

Brand: Tapatio

Selection: N/A

ABV: 40% ABV

Age: NAS

Nose: Delightful prickly pear, tobacco, oak and potent vanilla. Some agave in the mix, blending well with sour grapes and bright pear.

Taste: Sweet, lots of vanilla and cinnamon. Caramel, agave sweetness, some oak character. Medium mouth feel.

Finish: Medium in length, lots of agave, oak, vanilla and clove.

Overall: Excellent overall. Some overaged agaves lose their luster with too much cask influence but this is just right. I’m a big fan.

Thanks for reading!
