The Schtick: Ginvitational Day 16! Distilled here in Wisconsin, todays Deaths Door Gin review features a couple locally grown botanicals. Using WI juniper, fennel and coriander, this London Dry style gin is bottled at 47% ABV, and billed as an all purpose gin, useful neat, in cocktails or on the rocks. Let’s get to it.
Distiller: Deaths Door
Bottler: Deaths Door
Brand: Deaths Door
ABV: 47% ABV
Nose: Strong citrus, rosemary, basil, pepper. Lovely and rich, sweet with a peppery bite.
Taste: Sweet and creamy, really strong vanilla note to pair with anise, brown butter, pepper, bubblegum and herbs. Bonkers unique.
Finish: Sweet, hint of cinnamon and bubblegum, lemon and lime, pepper and potato rolls.
Overall: Super interesting profile but I really like it. I’m sad this is now hard to find given them going out of business but I think it’s pretty awesome. I’ll be curious to see if the buyers of their remaining stock produce it again or not. My guess is that they are hard at work given I’m seeing new bottles pop up, but I will be sure to get to the bottom of it as soon as I can.
