Review #1691 – Rua American Single Malt Whiskey

The Schtick: Rua single malt is an American Single Malt Whiskey produced by Great Wagon Road Distilling in Charlotte, NC. Produced from 100% non-GMO barley and aged in #3 Char 25g barrels, this should be an interesting take on the style. An added bonus is no chill filtering. Let’s get to it.

Review #1691 | American Review #701

Distiller: Great Wagon Road

Bottler: Great Wagon Road

Brand: Great Wagon Road

Selection: N/A

ABV: 46% ABV

Age: NAS

Nose: Cocoa, honey, praline, young must and cardboard. Faintly lactic, the youth is unmistakable. Faint melon.

Taste: Thin to medium on the palate, lightly bitter. Some honey, amaretto, slivered almond, pepper and immature oak structure. No heat, but the youth is here. Green apple.

Finish: Short finish, a bit hot, a bit rough. Lots of honey, slivered almond, faint oak, cardboard.

Overall: Not exceptional, and certainly young, but showing some promise. Ill be looking forward to trying this in 2-3 more years, because I bet it will be great. Until then, I would advocate you try it at a bar and leave it on the shelf at the liquor store.

Thanks for reading!
