Review #23 – Bruichladdich: The Classic Laddie, Scottish Barley

Nose: I smell floral seabreeze, like the faint salty breeze off of the ocean. It’s not overwhelming, I don’t feel like someone just poured saltwater in my face; it’s faint and delicate. Next, some honey and a little more salt followed by ever so faint vanilla. For such a light aroma, it’s intriguingly complex.

Taste: There’s a lot of floral notes followed by more sweetness, mostly that of honey. There’s a bit of salt but it fades quickly. There’s a bit of faint sherried notes, fruits, some clove, vanilla, floral waxed fruits, honey.

Finish: The finish is medium to long and very gentle for 100 proof. There’s a lot of honey, followed by some salt. On the way out, it leaves lingering floral impressions.

Overall: It’s really impressive how there’s such a wealth and diversity of notes and flavors in scotch that are completely foreign to bourbon. I know Bruichladdich is known for massive Octo peat, but I’m rather enjoying this un-peated Islay expression.

Thanks for reading!
