Review #302 – The Macallan No.2 Release
Whiskey Network Review #302 | /r/Scotch Review #124 – The Macallan No.2 , 96.4pf | 48.2% ABV
Thanks to /u/texacer for this here sample. I’m a big fan of Mac but was wary to purchase this given their shenanigans, as of late.
Style: Single Malt Scotch Whiskey
Producer: The Macallan
Proof: 96.4pf | 48.2% ABV
Age: No age stated.
Mashbill: Single Malt, Barley
Source: /r/scotchswap sample
Nose: Sweet syrupy fig, maple. No ethanol. Rich brown sugar, dates, mildly sulfuric, creamy sugar.
Taste: Richer Mac 12 notes, sulfuric pepper, sweet sherry. Figs, dates, raspberries, cocoa, vanilla.
Finish: Medium, little heat, sweet sherried char.
Overall: Overall, this is good. I enjoy the elevated proof and despite all the wild experimental aging and blending they did, this drinks just like a slightly boosted Macallan 12 to me. I’m going to give it a Rank 6.
Price is not considered in my review or my ranking. That being said, this is almost double the price of Macallan 12, and that tells me to leave it on the shelf, next to basically every fine oak product ever produced by Macallan.
