Review #308 – Highland Park Dark Origins
Whiskey Network Review #308 | /r/Scotch Review #127 – Highland Park Dark Origins 93.6 pf | 46.8% ABV
Maturation: ex-Sherry blended ex-Bourbon
Source: /r/scotchswap sample
Nose: RIch sherry, honey, molasses, toffee, figs, raspberry jam, strawberries
Taste: Thin mouthfeel but sweet and definitely sherried. Toffee, vanilla, strawberry and raspberry jam. NO sulfur. Peat sneaks in and grows over time. Nice mild ashy peat
Finish: More peaty but still sort of sweet. Peat wins in the end. Mild heat.
Overall: Great dram and very pronounced sherry and then peat. I like this quite a bit. There’s a clear transition while you’re drinking it, and while sometimes that is bad, in this case, it is very nice. This is on sale near me for $65 and I think that it is a phenomenal offering for that price. I’m giving this a Rank 7.
