Review #329 – Glenlivet Nadurra Oloroso
Whiskey Network Review #329 | /r/Scotch Review #140 – Glenlivet Nadurra Oloroso, 120.6pf | 60.3% ABV
I really enjoy the 16yr age stated ex-bourbon Nadurra. I also really like sherried things. How will this integrate elements of both? Let’s see. Traded for this in a misfit because it sits on my local shelf for $80 and I think that’s a high number for a NAS offering but at CS it’s tempted me many times. Very glad I swapped for this (at about half full) so I can check it out.
Maturation: Oloroso Finish
NCF | NCA
Nose: Sweet, punchy plums. Figs, jam, brown sugar, vanilla cream.
Taste: sweet thick oily plums. Mild sulfur, light grapes and figs. Plums, cocoa, faint pepper, heavy rich vanilla.
Finish: Long, mild heat but rich and fruity. Cocoa with a huge vanilla bomb finish. Some mild toffee. Just wonderful.
Overall: I am surprised by how much I really enjoyed this. I think the price is still a hair high, but it’s tempting even more now. There’s tons of great feel here and while I don’t usually encourage the removing of age statements, I feel that this dram is aged well enough and very well integrated. This is a good argument for the “stop caring about the age on the label, care what’s in the bottle argument.” Trying an older version of this would be cool to compare to see how the oloroso integrates over a long aging time. Huge vanilla bomb like the original 16yr nadurra with lots of fudge and fruit. I’m giving this a Rank 7.
