Review #351 – Heartwood Dregs
Whiskey Network Review #351 | /r/WorldWhisky Review #10 – Heartwood Dregs , 132.2pf | 66.1% ABV
Recently, a monster storm rolled in. I took off early from work in the afternoon to be home and enjoy the falling snow and decided it was the perfect afternoon to uncork some of the bigger guns I’ve been meaning to review. Snowed in, nowhere to have to go…it was the perfect recipe. Let’s dive in!
Snow Day Series: Dram 6 – Heartwood Dregs
The Rub: Eccentric master of blending blends Tasmanian things and they are fucking delicious. And, hard to get.
Nose: Leather, butterscotch, caramel bomb. Mild cocoa, confectioners sugar. It is woody, sweet, chocolatey, brash. I have a feeling this will be a mouthfull – literally.
Taste: Sweet caramel. Thick, mild heat, rich, though. Passion fruit, sherry notes are really prominent here. Caramel, cocoa, fudge, floral in a way I can’t describe. I won’t try and BS it – this is hella unique. I’m grasping for another note but I can’t quite nail it down. Delicious though.
Finish: Long – there’s a good punch of heat here. Rich, lasts for-fucking-ever.
Overall: Holy shitballs. This is not the best whiskey I’ve ever had but it is absolutely at the top for uniqueness. I opened this sample with friends and we could all agree that this was really just a special snowflake – I’ve not really had anything like it. It helps that it was also delicious, too. Thanks Slandy!
