Review #394 – Finlaggen Cask Strength
Whiskey Network Review #394 | /r/Scotch Review #154 – Finlaggen Cask Strength , 116pf | 58% ABV
Named after Finlaggen castle, this islay whiskey is a peated expression bottled at cask strength.
There is significant haze clouding the distillation of Finlaggen – there is no Finlaggen Distillery. The product is named after Finlaggen Castle but there is no distilling operation there. Thought to be casks sloughed off from Lagavulin, there is no official word on behalf of the Vintage Malt Whiskey Company on the source of Finlaggen
Bottler: The Vintage Malt Whiskey Company
Mash: Single Malt (barley)
ABV: 58% ABV | 116pf

Nose: Sweet creamy lemon zest. Pepper. Mild trace of brine. Overall, very sweet and peppery. Like a peaty lemon dessert. Mmmm
Taste: Sweet and peppery. Good bit of peat influence melding nice with lots of vanilla cream. Really quite fruity. Some nice brine in there also.
Finish: Long, and surprisingly complex. There’s a little heat, but it’s mostly sweet, salty and peppery.
Overall: For a budget CS whiskey this is really something great. I got a sample of this from a friend and had no idea what I was in for. Needless to say, I was very surprised. It’s delicious and complex.
