Review #461. Copper and Kings Three Marlenas

Review #456 | /r/Brandy Review #12 – Copper and Kings: 3 Marlenas

The Schtick: This is an American brandy that is aged in Tequila barrels. Very few bottles (about 1,000) were released and it is no longer sold. This was, what appears to be, an interesting one off experiment for C&K.

Designator: American Brandy

Distiller: Copper and Kings

Bottler: Copper and Kings (Kentucky)

ABV: 50% ABV

Age: 3yrs + 2yrs tequila barrel

Maturation: ex-Tequila

Source: Bottle, Purchased

Nose: Ooooooh, really interesting. Sweet chardonnay notes, apples, pears. Definitely agave influence. Some vanilla, faint cinnamon, it’s sort of jammy. The agave and the sweetness of the fruity notes play well on each other.

Taste: Medium mouthfeel, mild heat here. Sweet and rich, vanilla, lots of lighter fruits like apple, pear, some melon. The agave is really interesting here and doesn’t blend as well with the palate as it did on the nose. Overall, it tastes almost as expected – like a mildly young brandy, with some agave notes tossed in.

Finish: Medium, sweet and lots more agave here.

Overall: Overall, this was kind of a Frankenstein dram. Like a lot of their other experiments, I thought this was relatively good, but it’s not really something I’d reach for all of the time. It’s definitely a mood dram.

Thanks for reading!
