Review #480. Doorlys 8yr Rum (Foursquare)

Review #480 | /r/Rum Review #9 – Doorly’s Barbados Rum 8yr

The Schtick: This is rum sourced from Foursquare in Barbados and sold through Total Wine and More in the USA. Carrying a modest price tag and a reasonable age statement, I was intrigued when I stumbled across a bottle on sale.

Distiller: Foursquare (Barbados)

Bottler: Doorly’s (Total Wine and More)

ABV: 40% ABV

Age: 8 Years

Source: Bottle, Purchased

Nose: Caramel, some ethanol. Vanilla, molasses, mild fruity funk.

Taste: Thin, oaky and sweet. There’s not a lot going on here and the oak is weirdly dominant with some thin astringency.

Finish: Short, sweet and faintly oaky. Overripe banana, confectioners sugar, funky sour tannins.

Overall: I was surprised how strange this was compared to the XO and the 12yr. The oak was also more poorly prominent here compared to the 12yr also. Hmmm. Still a great value, but with all three on the shelf, I’d soon rather reach for the 12 or XO first.

Thanks for reading!
