Review #489. Chateau de Pellehaut 2000 17yr Armagnac

Review #489 | /r/Brandy Review #13 – Chateau de Pellehaut 2000 Vintage 17yr Armagnac

The Schtick: This is an armagnac from Chateau de Pellehaut which hails from the Tenareze region. Pellehaut primarily uses folle blanche.

Distiller: Chateau de Pellehaut

Bottler: Chateau de Pellehaut

ABV: 49.7% ABV

Age: 17 Years

Maturation: Oak

Grape Varietal: Folle Blanche

Region: Tenareze

Source: Sample

Nose: Thick, rich fudge. Sweet bready caramel. Faint blackberry jam, gingerbread.

Taste: Medium mouthfeel, only faint heat. Mild sulfur, faint pepper. Jammy and rich with fruity currant notes. Blackberry, raspberry, strawberry jam. Caramel and cocoa are very present here as well.

Finish: Medium length, fruity but dry. Nice and cake like with lots of cocoa, clove and gingerbread notes.

Overall: This is very well balanced, even despite it’s relative youth (compared to the others). Heat is in check, it’s not too syrupy or artificial and the sweetness isn’t cloying.

Thanks for reading!
