Review #507 | /r/Bourbon Review #289 – Michter’s Barrel Proof Rye
The Schtick: Michter’s Barrel Proof is a cask strength Rye of unknown provenance but completely known pricing. I, however, like rye – especially at cask strength so I’m looking forward to giving this a go.
ABV: 58.5% ABV
Age: 9 Years, 2 Months
Source: r/scotchswap sample
Nose: Brown sugar, molasses, toffee and cocoa. Tobacco, pepper, caramel.
Taste: Burnt brown sugar, heavy clove, rye spice, cocoa, tobacco, black pepper
Finish: Medium, spice heavy, lots of cocoa and caramel.
Overall: I liked this more than I remember. It’s a nice unique profile that focuses more on caramel, clove, cocoa and some nice tobacco in the profile. I don’t know what it goes for $ wise but I thoroughly enjoyed the sample I had.
