Review #51. Michters Single Barrel Rye

Review #51 | /r/Bourbon Review #26 – Michter’s Single Barrel Rye

The Schtick: Michter’s Single Barrel rye is a rye of unknown provenance, bottled by Michter’s.

Distiller: Undisclosed (Rumored Brown Forman)

Bottler: Michter’s

ABV: 42.4% ABV

Batch: #15B119

Age: NAS

Source: Sample

Nose: Rye wallop followed by a mountain of vanilla. Spice, leather, pepper and a little brown sugar before one last wave of rye spice.

Taste: It’s initially fairly bitter with a little astringent note. This fades quickly to nougat and sweetness, vanilla and caramel.

Finish: Medium to long, not insanely complex but still not bad. More of the same vanilla and rye spice.

Overall: Overall, this isn’t a bad product at all. Michter’s collects lots of hate for shady marketing and tight lipped sourcing but this is a nice product with enjoyable characteristics.

Thanks for reading!
