Review #53. Johnnie Walker Black Label

Review #53 | /r/Scotch Review #22 – Johnnie Walker Black Label

The Schtick: This is the ubiquitous Johnnie Walker Black Label, a 12 year old blend of various distilleries bottled by Johnnie Walker of Diageo.

Distiller: Various

Bottler: Johnnie Walker (Diageo)

ABV: 43% ABV

Age: 12 Years

Source: Bottle, Purchased

Nose: Smoke, malty honey. Some oak and a bit of leather sweetness. Mild salt but mostly caramel and smoke. Inoffensive and welcoming.

Taste: Malty and smokey. Some honey and vanilla, but just barely. Generally inoffensive and smooth. I hate using the word smooth but there’s no better word here. It’s smooth and nothing in particular sticks out too much. Kind of boring but really not too bad.

Finish: Medium, a little prickly and smokey and then it’s off to another store near you. Doesn’t stick around for very long.

Overall: For the brand that everyone loves to hate, Johnnie Walker isn’t bad. It’s inexpensive, surprisingly high quality and represents itself very well as a nice, mildly smoky dram.

Thanks for reading!
