Review #544 | /r/Rum Review #15 – Koloa Rum Company: Kaui Gold Rum
The Schtick: This is a golden rum from Kaloa Rum Company, distilled and bottled in Kalaheo, HI.
Distiller: Kaloa Rum Company
Bottler: Kaloa Rum Company
ABV: 40% ABV
Source: Mini from Sampler, Purchased
Nose: Strong hit of ethanol; caramel and vanilla notes really shine. Faint pineapple, lime and orange peel. Butter pecan, very pleasant.
Taste: Thin, but no heat or astringency. Sweet caramel, butter pecan and faintly floral notes are prominent. Vanilla butter cream is also a big component.
Finish: Short, sweet and again, very pleasant. Theres some more overripe fruit – lots of pineapple and plantain. Caramel leads the show out.
Overall: Overall this is very pleasant but not wildly remarkable. To me, drinking this, all I can think of is how great a Mai Tai this would make. Its not great neat, but its just fine. I’d make Mai Tai’s all day long with it, though.
