Review #55. Colonel EH Taylor Straight Rye

Review #55 | /r/Bourbon Review #28 – Colonel E.H. Taylor Rye

The Schtick: This is a rye released under the Colonel EH Taylor line. This is also released as a Bottled in Bond product.

Distiller: Buffalo Trace

Bottler: Buffalo Trace

ABV: 50% ABV

Age: NAS

Source: Sample

Nose: Molasses. Caramel and vanilla followed by some light rye spice. This nose is surprisingly large and full bodied.

Taste: Sugar and spice combo, lots of nougat and caramel sweetness with brown sugar on the side. The spice kicks in after and blends really well.

Finish: Shorter than the single barrel but also less hot. It’s still fairly hot but it’s delicious sugar bomb. Long and sweet.

Overall: This is definitely a barely legal rye given the uncharacteristic sweetness. It drinks more like a bourbon. It’s not a bad thing, it’s just interesting.

Thanks for reading!
