Review #554. Kavalan Solist Vinho Barrique LMDW

Review #554 | /r/WorldWhisky Review #16 – Kavalan Solist Vinho Barrique LMDW Store Pick, 60th Anniversary

The Schtick: “To mature their Kavalan Solist Vinho Barrique expression, the King Car distillers in Taiwan use casks which have held both red and white wines, before being re-toasted. The whisky is fully matured in these casks to help their Taiwanese single malt develop a bold, expressive flavour profile brimming with berry, plum and caramelised sugar notes.”

More Schtick: Fuck, this is dark. Way darker than the non store pick. Jeepers.

Distiller: Kavalan (Taiwan)

Bottler: Kavalan

ABV: 57.1% ABV

Age: NAS

Bottled: 2016/8/9

Source: Sample

Nose: Sweet fig, deep cocoa, rich prune and date fruit. Thick caramel. Really sweet, lots of stewed fruits.

Taste: Thick, rich. Cocoa, caramel, toffee, faint sulfur, fig, stewed fruits, jammy fruits

Finish: Medium short, fruity, rich and cocoa-y

Overall: Totally different than the other Vinho but just as delicious.

Thanks for reading!

Rank: 7
