Review #621. Glenrothes 17yr Signatory UCF

Review #621 | /r/Scotch Review #209 – Glenrothes 17yr Signatory Vintage Unchillfiltered Collection

The Schtick: This is an IB from Signatory capitalizing on Glenrothes spirit. It is matured in a refill sherry butt and bottled at 46% ABV. It is not colored or filtered.

Distiller: Glenrothes

Bottler: Signatory Vintage

ABV: 46% ABV

Age: 17 Years

Source: Sample

Nose: Sweet honey. Nutty sherry. Leather, tobacco, vanilla and butter cream. Faint stewed fruits. Faint sulfur.

Taste: Thin mouthfeel, faint sulfur. NO real heat. Sweet melon, faint sherry notes that are reminiscent of PX. Vanilla and butter cream are pretty prominent with a clover honey note.

Finish: Short, mildly astringent. Growing sulfur character. Some sweet cherry notes and then it’s gone.

Overall: I think the nose was the best part of this – super complex and inviting. Unfortunately, the thin character of the palate and the short finish really keep it from climbing higher than a 5.

Thanks for reading!
