Review #675 – Ledaig 2005 11yr Hermitage Finish (Gordon & MacPhail)

Review #675 | /r/Scotch Review #232 – Ledaig 11yr Hermitage Cask Finish Gordon MacPhail Private Collection

The Schtick: This is an 11 year old expression from Ledaig, finished in a Hermitage cask. I don’t know how long the finish was, but it has nice color to it. So I’m guessing a year or more.

Distiller: Ledaig (Tobermory)

Bottler: Gordon & MacPhail

ABV: 45% ABV

Age: 11 Years

Distilled: 2005

Source: Sample

Nose: Huge honey and the peat slap begins. Earthy, mineral forward, wet peat slap. Honey, caramel, sweet pastries and stewed fruits. Really notably rich.

Taste: Medium mouthfeel. Sweet honey, stewed fruits. Honeydew, pastries, lemon meringue, rich berries. Peat is present but less aggressive than the nose. Good balance and well restrained heat.

Finish: Long, earthy and peat dominant. Ashy and really void of fruitiness or sweets.

Overall: This was nice but couldnt keep up the momentum the nose was generating. Definitely enjoyable though and a definite nod to the consisten quality were seeing in a lot of these Ledaig IB’s.

Thanks for reading!
