Review #712 | /r/Scotch Review #241 – Ledaig 7yr, Signatory Vintage 2009, Binny’s Selection 700312
The Schtick: This is a young, cask strength Ledaig expression bottled by Signatory Vintage and selected by Binny’s. I don’t know the maturation type, distillation or bottling year or cask number.
If you’re wondering why this bottle image has the resolution of hot garbage, it’s because Binny’s website is terrible.
Distiller: Caol Ila
Bottler: Signatory Vintage
ABV: 60.1% ABV
Age: 7 Years
Nose: Buttered rolls, vanilla butter cream, super sweet icing note. Faint smokiness. Overall, very much a light, buttery, doughy dessert nose with some smoke on the back end.
Taste: Thick, rich, no real heat, despite the monster proof. Oily, rich, buttery mouth feel. Sweet lemon, vanilla, doughy dinner rolls. Faint minerality. Bold smoke presence and some pipe tobacco.
Finish: Long, growing heat. Very prominent smoke here taking over the previous dessert notes. Still very buttery presence though.
Overall: This was easily the most unique Ledaig that I have had before. The sweet nose, hugely rich mouth feel and buttery texture was really pleasant. Smoke balancing in the finish did it well, also.
