Review #714 – Caol Ila, 10yr Gordon & MacPhail, Binnys Selection

Review #714 | /r/Scotch Review #242 – Caol Ila 10yr Gordon & MacPhail, Binnys Selection

The Schtick: This is a 10yr old, refill sherry matured, Caol Ila expression that is bottled at cask strength by Gordon & MacPhail and selected by Binny’s.

Distiller: Caol Ila

Bottler: Gordon & MacPhail

ABV: 59% ABV

Age:10 Years

Source: Sample

Nose: Honey, peat, wet ash, sweet stewed fruits, caramel and toffee.

Taste: Thick, rich, stewed fruits, toffee, caramel, nutty sherry. RIch cocoa, pepper, oak and tobacco. Very prominent peat here, but it blends very well with the sherry.

Finish: Long, peaty and earthy with a pleasant sweetness. The blend between sherry and peat here is fantastic, and well done.

Overall: This was a very, very good expression. The nose to palate was intense and delicious, a good lesson in marrying peat and sweet wine finishes.

Thanks for reading!
