Review #756 | /r/Bourbon Review #419 – WhistlePig 10 Year Single Barrel, Barrel Proof Rye, Multnomah Whiskey Library Pick
The Schtick: This is a sample I reviewed blind. I posted my notes live to the Whiskey Network Discord server and got the reveal after wards. I used that info to fill in the details here for convenience.
I tasted a Whistle Pig 10 year, barrel proof, single barrel selection that was picked for the Multnomah Whiskey Library. This is a Canadian rye, distilled at Alberta, that is sourced, barreled and bottled by WhistlePig in Vermont, USA.
ABV: 58.15% ABV
Age: 10 Years
Nose: Clove, caramel, orange peel. Toffee, tobacco, citrus. Definitely bourbon.
Taste: Medium mouthfeel, faint heat. Caramel, clove, honey, orange peel, faint cocoa. Sweet cream.
Finish: Medium length, some heat. Little spicy. Caramel, waffle cone, oak, clove and pepper.
Overall / Guess: Good and complex, guessing bourbon, Wild Turkey distillate, 6-8 years, 50-55% ABV. Guessing a RRSiB selection I haven’t had yet.
Reveal: WhistlePig 10 Year Single Barrel, Barrel Proof Rye, Multnomah Whiskey Library Pick. wow! This was super interesting because while there was a lot of the token WhistlePig rye sweetness and some of the spice, I got none of the usual fruitiness that I associate with WhistlePig rye. Super cool. Thanks teejay!
