Review #758 – Old Weller Antique, NCF Brigante Selection

Review #758 | /r/Bourbon Review #420 – Old Weller Antique, Brigante Selection UCF

The Schtick: This is a sample of Old Weller Antique that I received in a blind sample. I got the reveal after taking down notes and am using that to fill in information here for convenience. For other blind reviews, hop on over to the Whiskey Network Discord server and join the chatter.

Distiller: Buffalo Trace

Bottler: Buffalo Trace

ABV: 53.5% ABV

Age: 8 Years, 11 Months

Additional Information: NCF

Source: Sample

Nose: Definitely bourbon. Ethanol, clove, caramel, vanilla. Tobacco, fruity with mild passion fruit and cherry.

Taste: Rich and sweet. No heat. Caramel, toffee and a nice thick mouth feel. Clove, mild chalkiness, fruity orange and passion fruit.

Finish: Medium, crisp and clean with no heat. Sweetness carries well.

Overall / Guess: This is really nice. I am having a hard time putting my finger on it, but this is definitely bourbon. I’m not sure it is something I have had before. I am guessing 7-10 years with an ABV of 45% – 50% ABV. This could maybe be Barton, but if I really had to guess, I would guess an EHTaylor Release I haven’t had.

Reveal: Old Weller Antique – Brigante Private Barrel (NCF, 8yr 11mo, 53.5%). Rats! So close, but so far. I briefly considered OWA early on, but discounted it due to lack of cinnamon. Really interesting!

Thanks for reading!
