Review #78. Glenfarclas 105 10yr

Review #78 | /r/Scotch Review #29 – Glenfarclas 105

The Schtick: This is a near cask strength release from Glenfarclas, bearing a 10yr age statement. Some batches don’t have this age statement, this one does.

Distiller: Glenfarclas

Bottler: Glenfarclas

ABV: 60% ABV

Age: 10 Years

Mashbill: Single Malt (Barley)

Source: Bottle, Purchased

Nose: Lots of sherry fruit with a wisp of spice.

Taste: Sherry and spice. There’s a bit tiny bit of an artificial note followed by sweet fruit and leather. It’s a bit hot on the tongue, but for 120 proof, it’s not punishing.

Finish: Long and a little hotter than I’d like but by no means unreasonable. There’s more sherry followed by some spice and a bit of rubber/char which seems odd but it fits with the profile well.

Overall: Very good dram for the price here in the US. Not as cheap as our overseas brethren but with the age statement and proof, I have zero regrets. Glenfarclas has gone 2/2 in my book and I’m looking forward to reviewing the Faultline, 17 and 24 in my upcoming reviews. Yum.

Thanks for reading!
