Review #79. Glenfarclas Faultline KL

Review #79 | /r/Scotch Review #30 – Glenfarclas Faultline Casks (KL)

The Schtick: This is an exclusive release from KL Wines in California. They selected several casks from Glenfarclas between the ages of 8 and 10 years old and blended them to produce this release. The result is a blend of first fill sherry casks bottled at 114 proof.

Distiller: Glenfarclas

Bottler: Glenfarclas (For KL Wines)

ABV: 57% ABV

Age: NAS

Mashbill: Single Malt (Barley)

Source: Bottle, Purchased

Nose: Huge sherry, red fruit and some chocolate. There’s little to no spice and zero ethanol.

Taste: Tons of sherry fruit – plumb, fig, date. Followed by deep spice and leathery smoke – very mild on the smoke and not in an Islay fashion but I do get some nice gentle sulfur-y smoke here. Mild chocolate and a nice spicy finish. For the proof, it’s gentle and drinks well below the actual ABV on the bottle.

Finish: Mediun long and full bodied. More sherry, spice and chocolate, woody leather.

Overall: This is really a quality dram.

Thanks for reading!
