Review #819 | /r/Scotch Review #276 – Scotch Malt Whisky Society 30.87: Glenrothes 14yr “A Skinny Dipping Dram”
The Schtick: This is a 14 year old bottling of Glenrothes distillate that has spent some period of time maturing in a refill port pipe. It is bottled at cask strength, NCF, no color added, by the SMWS.
Bottler: SMWS (Scotch Malt Whisky Society)
Designation: 30.87: A Skinny Dipping Dram
ABV: 55.6% ABV
Age: 14 Years
Bottle: One of 738 Bottles
Nose: Sweet cream, honey, buttered popcorn, faint melon, super rich creamy vanilla. Absolutely decadent. Peaches and cream. Strawberries. Doughnuts. Pepper, marzipan. Brine.
Taste: Thick, rich, faint heat. Vanilla, cream, butter, almonds, sponge cake, nutty and sweet. Incredibly rich and decadent. Thick fruits, dark cocoa.
Finish: Long rich sweet vanilla cream melon strawberries and cream, werthers, some nice wine influence.
Overall: Phenomenal, and one of my favorite IB casks of the year. The richness is astounding, the flavors diverse and complex and overpoweringly delicious. The port doesnt come through nearly as much as I would expect but Im not disappointed. This is easily the best Glenrothes Ive had yet. Just bonkers.
