The Schtick: This is an 18 year old, age stated, release from The GlenDronach. This is an older bottling (2013) so it is likely older, potentially even significantly more so, than the age statement would imply.
Distiller: The GlenDronach
Bottler: The GlenDronach
ABV: 46% ABV
Age: 18 Years Age Stated (Potentially Older)
Nose: Rich honey, toffee, sticky fruits. Figs, cloves, tobacco, coffee, cocoa, dates, currants. Richness is off the charts.
Taste: Medium mouth feel, no real heat. Sweet sherry, cream, cocoa, tobacco, figs, dates, currants, toffee, stewed fruits.
Finish: Long, rich, still no heat. Lots of raspberry, jammy blackberry, dates and figs. Butter cream, cocoa, tobacco, pepper, toffee.
Overall: Damn. This is just phenomenal. I never thought I’d really tell myself that a whisky at 46% could be this good but here we are. The richness, the complexity, it’s well balanced despite being a total sherry bomb. I’m very impressed.
