The Schtick: This is the second edition released by Macallan under the Edition line of expressions.

“A unique selection of oak cask styles are combined to yield a new limited edition expression each year. A characterful single malt, Edition No. 2 showcases our extraordinary commitment to sourcing and selecting only the very best oak casks for The Macallan.

A creative collaboration between our Master Whisky Maker and the three Roca brothers – co-founders of world-renowned restaurant, El Celler de Can Roca – Edition No. 2 unites these four masters in one spirit.

“The distinctive and dynamic character of Edition No. 2 has been shaped not only by the use of seven exceptional oak cask types from four different bodegas but by the creative spirit of each of the four collaborators; combining flavors to reflect each of their distinctive personalities in the resulting whisky.” – Macallan’s Website

Distiller: The Macallan

Bottler: The Macallan

ABV: 48.2% ABV

Age: NAS

Nose: Rich sherry, honey, fresh baked bread. Syrupy figs, cherry, stewed fruits. Super jammy. Lots of maple and brown sugar.

Taste: Lots of pepper, sweet sherry notes. Lots of cocoa and vanilla bean as well. Rich syrupy strawberry, raspberry, stewed figs and a really nice tobacco undertone.

Finish: Short to medium, not a lot of heat. Oak, subtle pepper and a really nice sherry exit. The vanilla bean is especially notable, followed by lots of stewed fruits.

Overall: This was definitely different than the Edition 1. It was relieving to see that astringent plastic note replaced with more sherry and the introduction of a little cocoa.
