Review #879 – Plantation XO Barbados Triple Cask Maturation, NASA Liquor Selection

Review #879 | /r/Rum Review #43 – Plantation XO Barbados Triple Cask Maturation, NASA Liquor Selection

The Schtick: This is a triple cask matured Plantation Rum that was distilled in Barbados and matured in a variety of casks and bottled at 40.6% ABV

“Barbados XO, triple cask finished in bourbon, cognac and then further in Mackmyra Swedish Single Malt Casks. A stylish and elegant spirit with notes of peach, tropical fruit, dark chocolate, and a wisp of smoke.” – according to NASA Liquors twitter account.

Distiller: ???

Bottler: Plantation

ABV: 40.6% ABV

Age: NAS (XO Designation)

Nose: Cocoa, leather, honey, toffee. Sweet amaretto. Creamy vanilla, some nice fruitiness here but nothing super funky. Maple.

Taste: Sweet, rich, caramel. Tons of sweetness here. Rich, supple, maple. Brown sugar, tobacco, amaretto. Light fruitiness. Almonds.

Finish: Short, sweet and nutty. Creamy vanilla. Cocoa, faint fruitiness. The cognac and malt whiskey casks are pretty evident, given the sweetness.

Overall: This was really nice, and completely different than I expected. Definitely a great sipper.

Thanks for reading!
