Review #901 – Longrow 9yr First Fill Sauternes

Review #901 | /r/Scotch Review #303 – Longrow 9yr First Fill Sauternes Matured

The Schtick: This was a bottle that I tried blind and I reviewed it live on the Whiskey Network Discord server, then got the reveal in order to fill in relevant details here.

Distiller: Longrow (Springbank)

Bottler: Longrow

Distilled: November 2007

Bottled: September 2017

Bottle: One of 252 Bottles

ABV: 58% ABV

Age: 9 Years

Nose: Sweet honey, sticky toffee and coffee cake. Brown sugar, maple candies. Musty sweetness. Some fruits, but not overbearing.

Taste: Medium mouth feel. Mild heat. Some peat here, earthy, mineral smoke. Rich stewed fruits. Oak, pepper, ashy smoke. Jammy. Sweet, some pepper.

Finish: Long, rich and sweet. Stewed fruits, honey and coffee cake blends well with an earthy, mineral smoke.

Overall + Guess: This has to be Ledaig. I would bet on it. I am guessing this is a sherry matured Ledaig between 9 and 12 years old, bottled at cask strength, between 57% and 60% ABV

Reveal: 9yr First Fill Sauternes matured Longrow. Yes! Age, proof and guess at maturation was spot on. I wish I got the Longrow funk nailed to the wall but I’m pretty satisfied with this one. Really delicious dram.

Thanks for reading!
