Review #94. Glenfarclas 17

Review #94 | /r/Scotch Review #35 – Glenfarclas 17

The Schtick: This is a 17yr expression from Glenfarclas’ core line of age stated products.

Distiller: Glenfarclas

Bottler: Glenfarclas

ABV: 43% ABV

Age: 17 Years

Maturation: re-fill sherry

Mashbill: Single Malt (Barley)

Source: Bottle, Purchased

Nose:Sugary sherry, light fruit and sherry spice notes. There’s a little vanilla and cream. Oddly reminiscent of the 12.

Taste: Light, complex sherry fruits, some syrupy sugar and figs and plums. Mild spice.

Finish: Medium. Nothing spectacular here but it’s still delicious. Lots of sweet sherry and a mild bit of zip and spice.

Overall: Compared to the 12, this is much better but not a knock out of the park like I was expecting. I like it though, and Glenfarclas fails to disappoint again. It really goes to show the complexity that refill sherry can introduce to a dram.

Thanks for reading!
